The Huawei Ascend W1 is known for being an affordable Windows Phone device, but it is now also known for being hackable. A talented developer has managed to unlock its bootloader and install a custom ROM onto the device, thus opening it up to a whole lot of potential.

The Ascend W1 features a 4.3 inch touch display, 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 5 megapixel camera, a secondary camera for video calls and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM.

[Android app] BootUnlocker for Nexus Devices allows unlocking bootloader without ADB

Unlocking the bootloader on your Android device gives you the ability to perform various modifications on your device or gain root/super user access. However unlocking the bootloader also makes your device vulnerable to malicious attacks. Unlocking the bootloader is generally done using ADB commands and fastboot. However the disadvantage here is that your entire data and system partitions are wiped  and you will have to restore all of your apps and data back to your device.

The Google Nexus 4 by LG has been in the Google Play Store for just a short time, but the developer have been modding an altering the device for a couple of weeks now. The RainbowMod custom ROM, which was first released for the Nokia Lumia 710, is now available for your Nokia Lumia 800. The release is a Tango ROM, in which he used a Chinese firmware version. For those interested, installing his MOD means you will be updated to firmware 7.10.8773.98, bringing new features and functionality to your device.

The ROM comes with English and Russian language packs built-in. To install the MOD and avail of the new customization options, you'll need the Qualcomm boot loader to flash it.

In a recent shift, a report suggest that AT&T will change its policy in regard to unlocking iPhones out of contract. The reports tates that starting Sunday, customers with an account which is both in good standing and out of contract will be able to request a carrier unlock code for their iPhones.
