[Guide] How to official unlock your iPhone on AT&T

A report surfaced last week that starting April 8th AT&T would unlock iPhones that were no longer under contract. Having your iPhone unlocked will allow you to use any SIM from any carrier on your device. This would also mean that you wouldn’t have to rely on software based unlock methods like Ultrasn0w.

Its turns out that the process can be quite simple. You can head over to an AT&T store near you to request the unlock or you can do it yourself using the following step by step guide.

  1. On your iPhone go to Settings > General > About
    • Note down your IMEI number
  2. Go to the AT&T website and login to your account
  3. You will receive an email within 72 hours with instructions on unlocking your device
  4. Follow the instructions on the email to continue with unlocking your iPhone.
Its as simple as that. At the end of the process you will have an unlocked iPhone will can be used on any carrier., and you wont even have to leave home to get it done.
Remember that you will be limited to unlocking a maximum of five devices and the unlock will only be provided if the device meets the correct criteria.
Let us know if you have managed to unlock your iPhone on AT&T. Some users have reported the process takes much longer than 72 hours. Let us know how the process was for you..
