[Guide] How to Backup and Restore Nandroid images on your Android device using ClockworkMod Recovery


It is always a good idea to backup your Android device especially if you like to try out custom mods. Using the ClockworkMod Recovery is a great way to take nandroid backups of the data on your device.

To perform this action you first need to root your device and have ClockworkMod Recovery installed.



[NOTE] Make sure that you have enough internal storage to take nandroid backups.

[NOTE] The process of taking backups or restoring a backup can take several minuets.

How to make a nandroid Backup using ClockworkMod Recovery

  1. Launch the ROM Manager and select Reboot to Recovery. Your device will reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
    [NOTE] If rebooting into CWM Recovery fails you can manually access CWM through a combination of keys. This key combination may differ between devices.
  2. Use your Volume Up / Down buttons and the Home / Power buttons to navigate to backup and restore > BackUp to perform a full backup of your device.
  3. Once completed select reboot system from the main menu of ClockworkMod Recovery.

How to restore a nandroid Backup using ClockworkMod Recovery
  1. Launch ROM Manager and select Reboot to Recovery.  Your device will reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
  2. Use your Volume Up / Down buttons and the Home / Power buttons to navigate to backup and restore > BackUp > [Select the file you want to restore]
