Nokia Lumia 920 for AT&T receives Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Cyan

Nokia Lumia 920 for AT&TThe Nokia Lumia 920 on AT&T is now receiving the Windows Phone 8.1 update with Lumia Cyan alongside the Nokia Lumia 820. Both of them were among the first Windows Phone 8 devices offered on the AT&T network and its nice to see them being treated to the latest version of Microsoft's mobile platform.

As you may know, those running the Windows Phone Developer Preview are not eligible for the Lumia Cyan update and have to revert back to the commercial version of Windows Phone 8.0 in order to receive Nokia's custom update. Fortunately it looks like Microsoft has rectified the issue for some devices.

Nokia Lumia 920A video of the Nokia Lumia 920 running Windows Phone 8.1 (Blue) was recently released online, showing a number of features expected to arrive in the next version of Microsoft's mobile platform. Among them, there is a Speed Dial function that looks to be under the "History" section of the dialer. The settings for IE 11 are shown and the video makes it clear how quickly you can change the default search engine. Data Sense can be configured from the IE settings page, and a Password Manager is available for web sites.

If you prefer to get the device contract free it will cost you $439.99, Interestingly the Lumia 920 costs more than the much newer and sleeker Nokia Lumia 925, which is priced at $430 off contract on the same carrier.

While users are waiting for the Windows Phone Amber update to arrive on their devices, impatient  and  users could consider installing an unofficial ROM of the update which has leaked out for both devices. Keep in mind however that since this ROM is unofficial, you wont be eligible for official updates while you have this installed. Additionally you will have to wipe all your data if you choose to install this ROM, so proceed with caution.

The Nokia Lumia 920 features PureView technology on the rear camera, with an optically stabilized 8.7-megapixel BSI image sensor (1/3" sized, much smaller than the previous Nokia 808 Pureview) with f/2.0 Carl Zeiss lens, short pulse high power Dual LED flash and 1080p HD video capture.

Even though the newly announced Nokia Lumia 1020 promises to trump the Lumia 920 in the camera department, the latter is still one of the best camera phones in the market as you can see from the following photo samples.

The Nokia Lumia 925 and the Nokia Lumia 920 have very similar internal hardware which include a 4.5 inch Super Sensitive touch display with a 768 by 1280 pixel resolution, an 8.7 megapixel PureView camera with dual LED flash capable of 1080p video capture, and a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM.
