Nokia Lumia 1020 vs. Nokia 808 PureView - Oversampling Comparison


The Nokia Lumia 1020, much like its predecessor the Nokia 808 PureView, uses its large sensor with its high pixel count to capture very detailed pictures. It users a technology Nokia refers to as pixel oversampling, where information from multiple pixels are pulled onto the sensor  to produce 'perfect' pixels in a lower resolution output image.

Nokia 808 PureView vs. Lumia 925 vs. Lumia 928 - Video Comparison


Nokia has two types of camera flagships in the market - The first was the Nokia 808 PureView which features the company's PureView Phase 1, with pixel oversampling. Nokia would then release the Nokia Lumia 920 with PureView Phase 2, which features optical image stabilization and improved low light photography. This technology was later released on the Nokia Lumia 928 for Verizon and the upcoming Nokia Lumia 925.

We have already seen the Lumia 925 go up against the Lumia 928, but we now get to see how PureView Phase 2 fairs against PureView Phase 1.

Nokia 808 PureView and Belle FP2 devices receive software updates, improves Colorizit and Image Share

The Nokia 808 PureView and other Nokia Belle FP2 smartphones like the Nokia 603, Nokia 700 and the Nokia 701 have received some optional software updates to Colorizit, an Image Share Update for Twitter and an Image Share update for your Camera and Gallery.

You can update your device through the SW Update app. Simply run the app and be sure to restart your handset after the updates have been installed on your device. The updates are region specific, so it may be awhile before it arrives on all devices.

The new Sony Xperia Z features a 13 megapixel camera with a Exmore RS sensor and promises to be one of the camera-phones in the year ahead. So it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against some of the other top smartphone cameras like the Apple iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy Note II and the Nokia 808 PureView.

Nokia confirms that the 808 PureView was the last Symbian smartphone

Along with the release of Nokia’s Q4 financial report, the company also confirmed that the Nokia 808 PureView would be the company’s last smartphone to be powered by the Symbian operating system. The Symbian platform has been on Nokia devices since the late 80’s and has been Nokia’s main platform since the company acquired it in June 2008.

Since then the platform has found it difficult to compete against the new era of iOS and Android devices and eventually was overtaken by Android by the end of 2010 as the most popular smartphone operating system.

Nokia 808 PureView receives (113.010.1508) software update which improves performance and features

The Nokia 808 PureView has received a new software update which carries version 113.10.1508 and brings improved performance and features. You can download the update which is around 420MB in size, by connection your device to the Nokia (PC) Suite and running the software updater.

It is good to see that Nokia is continuing to update their flagship Symbian device despite having shifted their focus to the Windows Phone platform. The 808 PureView is still a much sort after device especially because of its impressive 41 megapixel camera.

The award winning Nokia 808 PureView has just received a major discount in India, and is now available for just Rs. 24,999 through online retailer Saholic. The PureView was launched back in June for Rs. 33,899 making this quite a significant discount.

The 808 PureView features a 4.0 inch touch display with Gorilla Glass protection, a 41 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics which is capable of capturing 1080p full HD video, a Xenon flash, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD,  and is powered by a 1.3 GHz processor with 512MB RAM.
