Android TV officially announced


One of the announcements at Google I/O 2014 was Android TV, a new platform that will run on streaming boxes or be integrated into smart TV sets. Android TV is rich in functionality, with support for both video and music streaming. It even offers the ability to mirror your Android device, so you can play games on your TV (with multiplayer support). Additionally you will be able control your Android TV with your smartphones or tablets along with a regular D-Pad control with voice.

Google Chromecast announced, allows streaming content to your TV from any device

Today was a day full of announcements from Google, which included a new Google Nexus 7 and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. But one of the most interesting announcements came in the small form of the Google Chromecast.

The Chromecast is a tiny dongle which you can attach to your TV HDMI port and allows you to control your TV from a range of Android, iOS devices or a Windows or Mac computer which is running Google Chrome.

Apple releases 5.1.1 build 10A831 update for Apple TV

Apple has released the 5.1.1 build 10A831 software update for the Apple TV alongside the release of iTunes 11. The Apple TV update isn't as extravagant as the iTunes update, but brings support for iTunes Up Next and iTunes match along with several bug fixes and performance improvements.

The update follows the 5.1 update which was released in September with the ability to save multiple iTunes account and quickly switch between them, Shared Photo Streams and AirPlay. It isn't common for Apple to release consecutive updates so quickly, but it probably was a necessity with the new iTunes update.

Netflix shares rise following rumor of Microsoft takeover

Netflix share prices rose by over 13% on Friday following a rumor which suggested that Microsoft was about to make a bid for the streaming video service. The rumor first started when Netflix CEO Reed Hastings decided to step down from Microsoft’s Board of Directors, which led us to believe he made this decision to avoid a conflict of interest.

Google Play gift cards are coming soon


Recently surfaced evidence suggests that Google will have Google Play gift cards made available soon, which will allow users to purchase apps, music and videos from the Google Play Store.

These cards will be available in $10, $25 and $50 denominations and sold through retailers like Target and Radio Shack and probably through the Google Play Store.

Google has still to officially confirm this information, but all information points towards the Google Play gift cards, being made available sooner, rather than later.
