Apple is currently seeding out iOS 8.1.1 beta to registered iOS developers. According to the release notes, the update includes "increased stability and performance improvements for iPad 2 and iPhone 4s." Both these devices are currently the entry level into iOS 8, and have faced performance issues since the release of iOS 7.0 last year.
The Apple iPhone 4S was the last iPhone to feature a 3.5 inch display, but also the first to feature Siri. Its smaller size is still arguably best suited for single handed use, so its not surprising that customers still hold onto the device.
The Apple iPad 2 has also been around for quite some time and is currently the oldest iPad to offer and iOS 8 upgrade. It was launched way back in 2011 with iOS 4.3, replacing the original iPad, so its quite impressive to see the tablet is still around.
Given the efficiency of iOS releases, its a little surprising that the iOS 8 adoption rate has been just a little more than 50%. This happens to be the slowest rate ever achieved by an iOS update. Hopefully the release of iOS 8.1.1 will change this, allowing older iOS users to upgrade to the newer platform with the promise of renewed life on their iPhone 4s and iPad 2.
