[Guide] How to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch (A4 Devices)
Apple has released iOS 5.1.1 for the iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch and there is one question on many users who rely on jailbreaking their devices. Is it safe to update to iOS 5.1.1?
The answer is Yes. If you rely on the Redsn0w jailbreak tool and use an A4 processor powered device like the iPhone 4, iPad or iPod Touch 4th Gen. Of course older devices which support this version of the software can also be jailbroken.
You can use the following step by step guide on how to jailbreak (tethered) your iOS device on iOS 5.1.1.

Your device warranty may be void and you may loose data or cause device malfunction if the process is not performed properly. Please proceed at your own risk.
- Connect your iOS device to your computer and backup your data
- Download the latest version of RedSn0w for your operating system
- Download iOS 5.1 for your specific device (not iOS 5.1.1)
- Extract the zipped file you downloaded in Step 2 and run Redsn0w
- On the opened window select ‘Extras’ and then ‘Select IPSW’
- Browse and select the IPSW file you downloaded in Step 3.
- On the main screen of Redsn0w, select ‘Jailbreak’ and ensure the ‘Install Cydia’ option is selected before you proceed.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to set your device in DFU mode. Make sure you follow these steps carefully.
- Once in DFU mode Redsn0w will complete the Jailbreak process. Once your device reboots you can check if it has been successful through the Cydia app which should now be installed on your device.
- Connect your device to your computer and launch Redsn0w.
- Select ‘Extras’.
- Next Select ‘Just Boot’.
