The iPhone Dev Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.12b1 which integrates the Absinthe exploit to provide an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1. Apple iOS 5.1.1 comes with bug fixes and performance updates and users who rely on the Redsn0w jailbreak can finally take advantage of the iOS software update.
The step by step guide on how to Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 (untethered) using Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 follows

NOTE Unlockers, please note that only A4 devices with certain basebands currently support being unlocked. The iPhone 4S and the new iPad cannot be unlocked using the following method. Please do not upgrade to 5.1.1 at this time.

- Download RedSn0w 0.9.12b1 [ Windows | Mac OS ]
- Connect your iOS device to your computer and run RedSn0w.
- Click on ‘Jailbreak’ to Jailbreak and install Cydia, and wait for the process to complete
- Click on ‘Extras’, and ‘Custom IPSW’.
- Select the relevant iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file and wait for the custom firmware to be created.
- Once completed enter DFU mode by selecting ‘Extras’ and ‘Pwned DFU’.
- Restore the custom IPSW file through iTunes by selecting ‘Shift’ and ‘Restore’.
- Once the custom IPSW has been restored open Cydia. And follow these instructions on how to unlock your iOS device using Ultrasn0w 1.2.7.
NOTE Only the following basebands can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w.
01.59.00, 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.13.01, 05.12.01 and 06.15.00.
If your device doesn’t have one of the following basebands, DO NOT upgrade to the stock iOS 5.1.1. Your device may be locked permanently.

- The Ultrasn0w repository is already available so Select Search and find ultrasn0w 1.2.7.
- In case you cant find the app you may need to manually add the source,
- Select ‘Manage’.
- Select ‘Sources’.
- Select ‘Add’.
- Type in ‘http://www.repo666.ultrasn0w.com’ and then ‘Add Source’.
- Once you find the Ultrasn0w app, select Install from the top right of the screen.
- Once the installion is complete select Restrat Springboard and then reboot your device once from the homescreen.
