HTC schedules August 19 event, likely unveiling HTC One M8 with Windows Phone 8.1

HTCHTC is sending out an invitation for an event that will take place on August 19, in New York City. While the company has not revealed what they plan to unveil during the event, speculations include a new smartwatch, the Nexus 8 tablet or the HTC One M8 with Windows Phone 8.1

So far the HTC One M8 with Windows Phone 8.1 seems the most likely candidate for announcement during the event. Until now this rumored device has been known as the HTC One W8, but a new report suggests that the handset is tentatively called "HTC One M8 for Windows", and would be released on Verizon's network in the U.S.. Also according to various sources, Microsoft Stores are expected to launch the One M8 for Windows on August 21.

Recently a press render of the handset has been discovered on Verizon's website. The image shows the device has some subtle differences to the Android powered One M8, but looks nearly identical. There is a Live Tile shown for Blink Feed, and one for "TV" which would indicate that the IR Blaster will be offered on this version of the HTC One (M8). Other features from the Android version, like the Duo camera, the 5 inch screen with 1080 x 1920 resolution, and the 5MP wide-angle front-facing camera, will all be found on the Windows Phone 8.1 version of the phone. Because the phone will come out of the box with the GDR1 update pre-installed, the Dot View case will be sold as an accessory for the Windows Phone version.

With so many rumors and reports of this device piling up, it makes the August 19 unveiling quite likely.
