Apple has just released the first public beta of Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite. While pre-release versions of Apple's software is usually limited to developers, Apple made a change at this year's WWDC announcing that a public beta will be released to anyone with an Apple ID who wanted to test the desktop OS.
This means you do not have to pay the $99 fee required to be part of Apple's Mac Developer Program. You will be able to download the beta versions of OS X Yosemite ahead of its public release though Apple's new Beta Seed Program.
In order to download and install Apple Mac OS X (10.10) Yosemite Beta 1, you can follow the step-by-step tutorial below.

- - Next, you'll need to type in your Apple ID credentials – the same user name and password you’re often prompted for when downloading an app.
-
- - Once you're signed in using your Apple ID, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the blue "Get OS X Yosemite Beta Redemption Code" button.
-
- - You'll be taken to a new screen where you will be presented with the necessary instructions on how to download and install Yosemite. At this point, make sure your Mac supports Yosemite. Once you’re ready, tick the little checkbox right next to the "I have read the above and understand the limitations of using this beta software" under the "Download and install Yosemite Beta" heading, and you'll be presented with the Yosemite Redemption Code, after which you’ll want to click on the "Download OS X Yosemite Beta" button.
-
- - Once you click on the "Download Yosemite Beta" button, the Mac App Store will launch asking you to enter your redemption code. Enter it, and Yosemite beta will start downloading.
Once you have installed Yosemite on your Mac, your UI will match the new layout introduced on Apple's iOS 7, and you will get to enjoy the latest features of the platform. Leave us a comment and let us know which of the Yosemite features are your favorites.
