Skype for Android has been updated to version 5.0, which adds the ability for Skype to go through the address book on your phone, looking for matches between the names on your list, and Skype accounts. Any names that match, will show up in your Skype people list.

Since Skype is owned by Microsoft, those who connect to Skype using their Microsoft account can scan through all of their Microsoft account contacts for fellow Skype users. This feature will make its way to Windows Phone and iOS in the coming months.
Skype claims it will not spam the names in your address book, and you can decide not to have the matched names automatically added to your Skype people list. Skype also claims that your phone number won't be made a part of your profile. And if you don't want to be found by others, you can modify or deactivate the number associated with the account.
