The most popular smartphones in North America

Infographic
iQmetrix, has released an infographic on the phones sold in North America (U.S. and Canada) in the past six months (December 2013-May 2014). The dta has been collected from its RQ Retail Management system, which is used by independent wireless retailers across North America to process an estimated 14.5 million handset transactions each year.

The information includes data from 15,000 store locations across North America, identifying interesting trends for the most popular mobile phone manufacturers in a variety of cities, and also for North America as a whole.

The infographic provides information on mobile phone, plan, add-on and accessory purchasing trends and provides the following key findings.

Apple and Samsung are the top two smartphone manufacturers in this region. For example, Apple has 61% of the stake in New York City, while Samsung controls a large 45.5% of customers in Seattle. While the Apple iPhone 5s managed to outsell the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung still had the larger percentage of device sales. While Android may dominate the rest of the world, iOS devices continue to have a stronghold in North America.

Meanwhile BlackBerry is still a significant choice, at least for those in Toronto, who contribute toward 30% of all BlackBerry sales across Canada and the United States. Keep in mind that this does not include sales in Montreal and Quebec.

Companies like LG, HTC and Nokia all have their share of fans, but it will be interesting to see how these numbers will change as new devices like the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and the LG G3 make their way into this infographic next season.
