Google has released a Developer Preview Images of the Android L Release for the Google Nexus 5 and Google Nexus 7 (2013). This is a pre-release version of the upcoming version of Android and may contain bugs, so we don't recommend installing it unless you have a secondary device lying around.
According to Google, "[the] image is not a stable release, and may contain errors and defects that can result in damage to your computer systems, devices, and data. The preview Android system image is not subject to the same testing as the factory OS and can cause your phone and installed services and applications to stop working." In other words, you can damage your phone by installing this update.
It is also important to note that not all the user features of the L Release are currently finished, nor is the build optimized for current apps. This is the first time Google has released a preview version of an upcoming Android release, which indicates that the implications for L are larger for the company’s entire development platform than ever before.
