Google Play updated (4.4) with new navigation menu

The Google Play Store has been updated to version 4.4 for Android devices, but those who are expected a slew of new features will be disappointed. The similarity to the Android 4.4 KitKat version number is nothing more than a coincidence, as the update just seems to bring a new hamburger style menu to the application's navigation. In any case we are happy to see consistent feel across Google proprietary applications continue to grow.

This does affect users who still have a menu button on their device, as now instead of opening the overflow the menu button only opens a window with a "settings" and "help" entry, while the rest of the shortcuts are in the drawer. Other than that, it's the same Play store app you're used to, with the same wish list screen, my apps pages, and shopping menu as always.

If you have still not received the update, you can try one of the following methods to try forcing it onto the device.
  • Try a simple reboot;
  • Uninstall updates for Google Play Store under Settings > Applications, then reboot
  • Clear cache and data for Google Services Framework under Settings, then reboot
You could also consider downloading the files from one of those mirrored links online or just wait until Google eventually pushes it out to your device. After all  you wont really missing anything except a cleaner app navigation system.
