Google Nexus S receives Android 4.0 ICS software update

If you own a Google Nexus S running on T-Mobile's GSM network, there is some good news for you. Google has sent out a tweet stating that they have started rolling out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update today. The update can take up to a month to reach all the handsets so please be patient and be on the look out.

If you own a GSM version of the Google Nexus S and do not want to wait for the automatic update, you can choose to manually update your device. However be warned that this update is only for the GSM version. and should not be attempted on the CDMA model.

How to manually update Ice Cream Sandwich on the Google Nexus S
  • Download the Android 4.0 OTA package
  • Rename the downloaded file to update.zip
  • Copy the file to the root of your internal storage of your Nexus S
  • Power off your Device
  • Switch it back on while holding  Volume Up + Power Button
  • Select Recovery using the Volume keys to browse and the Power button to select.
  • When you see the exclamation mark in the triangle, Press the Power button and press Volume Up.
  • Select 'Apply update from /sdcard' and choose update.zip
  • One the process is completed select 'Reboot system now'
You should now have Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) on our Google Nexus S. CDMA users will have to wait a little longer, we will update this guide when Google releases the relevant update file.
