Apple has seeded the GM release of iOS 4.2 to developers. This version supports the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPad and iPod touch 4G/3G/2G. The first beta of iOS 4.2 was released on September 15th, the 2nd Beta on September 28th and the 3rd and final beta was released on the 15th of October.
This release brings the following updates to iOS 4.2
- New multitasking bar with volume backlight and AirPlay control
- Create an Apple ID from within Mobile Me panel.
- AirPlay for YouTube
- Update to Restrictions
Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 which was released recently can jailbreak the devices listed above on iOS 4.2. It is important to understand that Cydia however has still not been updated to support the new OS and should not be installed as part of the jailbreak yet.
Unlock
There is no known unlock at this point for iOS 4.2. All users who rely on an unlock are requested to stay away from this version until it's public released and availability of unlock.
