Apple iPhone OS 4.0 GM released


Apple has released the final version of iOS 4 (formerly iPhone OS4) along with the SDK for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch (2G,3G).


This version is only available for members who are enrolled in the iPhone (standard or enterprise) developer program. The public will have to wait for it's availability on the 21st of June via iTunes The iOS 4 Promises over a 100 new features and 1500 new APIs for developers. The major features include multi tasking for certain apps, folders to organize apps and a comprehensive overhaul of the email. The first beta of the iPhone OS was released in the first week of April, at a preview event held at Apple's Cupertino campus.

The Beta 2 was released on the 21st of April and Beta 3 in early May. The last beta (Beta 4) was released on the 19th of May. With every beta release more and more of the features promised were revealed.

With the release of iOS 4 on the 7th of June at the WWDC 2010 developers have gotten their hands on the final release of the software. Features like custom playlist creation for iTunes, tap-to-focus for video, 'faces and places' photo tagging feature, 5x digital zoom for camera were among some of the features added.

App gifting was also a welcome added feature with the release. Wallpaper changing on the home-screen and spell checker for email were added functionality. For a preview of the iOS on the Apple iPhone 4, check out the video below published by IntoMobile at the WWDC 2010:
