The Toshiba Encore Mini was officially announced today as the cheapest tablet to date to run Windows 8.1. The slate was developed following a "close" collaboration with Microsoft, and it’s obviously the Redmond giant’s attempt to compete with the army of ultra-affordable Android tablets available all around the world.

One of the biggest obstacles for Windows tablets to grow in popularity is their price. Luckily Microsoft plans to change this by introducing a special version of Windows to its manufacturers which will in turn allow them to drastically drop the prices of their tablets. Toshiba announces dual 5MP camera module with stereo-3D photos and digital focus

Toshibas has announced a dual 5MP camera, along with a companion chip for smartphones and tablets. The new product is touted to be quite unique, and it'll incorporate twin 0.25-inch optical format 5-megapixel CMOS camera module, capable of simultaneously recording both image and depth data.According to the press release, sampling availability starts on January 31st 2014

Upcoming Windows 8.1 tablets with Intel's Bay Trail processors


Alongside the release of Windows 8.1 next week, there will also be a new lineup of tablets powered by Intel's latest Atom chip code-named Bay Trail. These tablets which will be priced between $299 and $350, include the Dell Venue 8 Pro, Toshiba Encore, and the Asus Transformer Book T100. More models are expected to ship in the coming months.

Toshiba Encore unveiled with 8 inch display priced at $330

The Toshiba Encore is a Windows 8.1 tablet which features an 8 inch IPS display with a 1280 by 800 pixel resolution. You also get 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded through the microSD slot and you have an 8 megapixel camera on the rear of the device to capture your photos with a front camera for video calls. The Encore is powered by an Intel (Bay Trail) Atom chipset, which works well with Windows 8 and offers a reasonably long battery life.

Toshiba has used a light and durable polycarbonate material to build the Encore, giving it a nice feel to hold and use. A micro HDMI port has been included to allo you to stream your device content to your TV.

Toshiba announces three new Excite tablets

Toshiba has three new Android 4.2 Jelly Bean tablets that they want to show off and they have one with each type of user in mind. The Toshiba Excite Pure is the first of the three and is an entry level offering which is cost $300 when it goes on sale later this month. The device has 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD and is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.

Toshiba announces 10.1 inch Excite 10 SE tablet with Android Jelly Bean

Toshiba has introduced a 10.1 inch tablet with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board. The device which is named the Toshiba Excite 10 SE features a 10.1 inch diagonal AutoBright HD touchscreen display3 with vibrant colors is powered by a quad-core Tegra 3 Super 4-PLUS-1 processor. The plus 1 refers to a fifth core which is used for certain tasks, freeing the other cores for the heavier tasks and helping to preserver battery life.

Toshiba Excite 7.7 - Video Review


The  boasts top of the line hardware in a compact body which includes a 7.7 inch touch display, 16GB of internal storage, a 5 megapixel rear camera, a 2 megapixel camera for video calls and is powered by a NVidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM.

However its somewhat expensive $450 price attached to its entry level model may see users look toward other options for their tablet needs.

Toshiba Windows RT tablet demonstrated

Microsoft recently revealed their intentions to join their tablet ranks with their own . But we didn't get to see Widows RT in action during Microsoft’s  tablet Event. However manufacturers have been cooking up their own Windows RT hardware for some time now, and Toshiba was one of the first to demonstrate their upcoming devices during the Computex 2012.


The devices included a tablet and a touchscreen laptop powered by a TI OMAP 4470 chip with a 1.8GHz dual-core A9 processor and the PowerVR SGX544 GFX graphics chip.

Toshiba Excite 10 LE - Coming on March 6

The Toshiba Excite 10 LE which was previously named the Excite X10 is finally ready for a public release. The tablet was first revealed at the CES 2012 and wowed the audience with it's 7.7mm thin frame. Toshiba has now announced that the device will be released on March 6.

This announcement comes just one day before the day the iPad 3 is expected to be announced, and Toshiba expects to steal some of Apple's thunder  with their own offering.

Toshiba Thrive receives (3.2.1.31.5.0003) software update

The Toshiba Thrive has just received a minor software update (3.2.1.31.5.0003) which is reported to optimize functionality on select applications and utilities from Toshiba and Google. If you have not received an alert for this update you can install it manually under system updates.

The Toshiba Thrive which features a 10 inch touch display, dual cameras, upto 32GB of internal storage and a 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM.

While the Toshiba Thrive eagerly awaits its turn of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. But for now we will have to be satisfied with this interim update which could be laying the foundation for ICS which should be just around the corner.
