[Android app] BBM update lets you retract messages and more

BBM for Android has been updated, and brings some useful features and enhancements to the messaging client. Now when you send a message by mistake, you can simply tap the retract button. This works both before or after the text has been viewed.

[Windows Phone app] BBM (beta) updated; public launch coming soon

BBM for Windows PhoneBBM for Windows Phone (beta) has been updated to version 1.2.0.9 with improved perofrmance. According to the changelog, the major issue addressed by the update is "the slow initial launch time on a fresh install". With this release BlackBerry also says it is close to the public launch of BBM on Microsoft's mobile platform.

BlackBerry Passport for Rogers receives 10.3.0.1418 update

The BlackBerry Passport on Rogers is currently receiving a software update v10.3.0.908 (also known as OS v10.3.0.1418). Rogers was the first carrier to roll out an update before the device was fully officially announced, and it seems they will stick to the trend of offering quick updates.

[BlackBerry app] BBM updated with easier photo sharing, voice calling and more

BBM for BlackBerryBlackBerry Messenger (BBM) has been updated (10.4.4.8) for the BlackBerry platform with a more more streamlined attachment sharing that makes it easier to share files such as photos and documents between users. Audio calling has also been added. This brings the cross-platform messenger app in line with other competitors in the field such as Whatsapp and Viber.

BlackBerry devices on AT&T receive 10.2.1.3014 software update

AT&T is now rolling out the 10.2.1.3014 OS update (also known as 10.2.1.3337 update) to the BlackBerry Z10 and the BlackBerry Q10 on its network. The update doesn't seem to bring any new features over the BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 update, so we assume it contains minor bug fixes and performance improvements for the carrier devices.

BBM now available on the Windows Phone Store as a private beta

BBM for Windows PhoneBBM has been available on iOS and Android for some time now, and BlackBerry promised that they will release a Windows Phone version as well. It looks like the app's development has progressed well, as a beta version has been released on the Windows Phone Store. 

Unfortunately it is still in a private beta state, so you will require an invitation in order to use the app. However given that it is in beta, it likely won't be long before the public will get to enjoy BBM on their Windows Phones.

The most popular smartphones in North America

iQmetrix, has released an infographic on the phones sold in North America (U.S. and Canada) in the past six months (December 2013-May 2014). The dta has been collected from its RQ Retail Management system, which is used by independent wireless retailers across North America to process an estimated 14.5 million handset transactions each year.

The information includes data from 15,000 store locations across North America, identifying interesting trends for the most popular mobile phone manufacturers in a variety of cities, and also for North America as a whole.
