Acer announces more new smartphones at Computex

At the ongoing Computex 2014 in Taipei, China, Acer announced five new smartphones, an 8-inch tablet, and its first-ever wearable accessory. We have already told you about the Acer Liquid Jade smartphone with the Acer Liquid Leap wearable. We have also told you about the Acer Iconia Tab 8 premium Android tablet. So lets take a look at some of the other interesting announcements, which include an entry-level smartphone with DTS Audio and a triple-SIM smartphone for the extra-communicative among you. Acer Liquid Leap wearable and Acer Liquid Jade smartphone announced


Alongside the unveiling of the ACER ICONIA TAB 8, the company also announced the Acer Liquid Leap, which happens to be its very first wearable device. The company also unveiled a new smartphone called the Acer Liquid Jade, which was briefly showcased last month.

Today Acer introduced the Iconia Tab 7 alongside the Acer Iconia One 7. Both are  affordable Android powered tablets which aim to ease the burden on your wallets. The tablets were unveiled by Acer, during its "A Touch More Connected" launch event in New York.

Android is a derivative of Linux, and therefore natively works with any Linux-based system without requiring extra configurations. This also includes Mac OS X which is also a variant of Linux. Acer teases new Android phone


Acer has just teased a new smartphone on its Google+ page, ahead of the MWC 2014, which is set to start next week. The unannounced device will be a part of the Taiwanese maker's Liquid series. The image isn't especially revealing, but the device features an interesting sensor on its back panel. It could be an infrared blaster, a fingerprint sensor, or some kind of hardware button. We will have to wait until the MWC to find out more.

Acer Liquid S1 - Video Review

The Acer Liquid S1 is the first attempt at a phablet from the company. It features a 5.7 inch touch display, 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary camera for video calls and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM.

The Acer Liquid S1 is priced at 350 Euros ($460) which feels a bit pricey considering the weak chipset, subpar display and underwhelming camera performance. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 is an alternative worth considering, which also features two SIM slots and has almost identical dimensions and weight, with slightly larger battery and more RAM, but has a lower screen resolution.

Acer Liquid S2 - Photo and 4K Video Samples

The Acer Liquid S2 is the newest Android flagship from the device manufacturer with some drool worthy specs in tow. One of its special features is its 13 megapixel rear camera which is capable of capturing video at a staggering 4K resolution. This feat makes the Acer Liquid S2 is the first smartphone capable of recording video in Ultra high definition.

4K is the stage after full (1080p) HD and the video standard that will be best experienced on those new Ultra HD television sets. The thought that a smartphone brings that level of processing power inside it is quite impressive.

Acer Iconia W3 now available for pre-order


The Acer Iconia W3 is a Windows 8 tablet which features an 8.1 inch touch display, up to 64GB of internal storage, a microSD card reader, a 2 megapixel camera, a secondary 2 megapixel camera for video calls and is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom processor with 2GB of RAM. The tablet runs Windows 8 Pro and includes Microsoft Office 2013.

The tablet is now available for pre-order through Amazon and Staples to anyone who wants to get their hands on the first Windows tablet of this class.

Acer Iconia W3 officially unveiled, pre-orders start on June 4

The Acer Iconia W3 has been officially unveiled at Computex 2013. This Windows 8 tablet features an 8.1 inch touch display with a 1280 by 800 pixel resolution, up to 64GB of internal storage, a microSD card reader, a 2 megapixel camera, a secondary 2 megapixel camera for video calls and is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom processor with 2GB of RAM.

The handset comes with a 2400 mAh battery which Acer claims is capable of getting you through an active day.

Acer Liquid E2 - Video Review

The Acer Liquid E2 is an Android smartphone which features a 4.5 inch touch display, 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary 2 megapixel camera for video calls and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM.

It may not be the top smartphone in the market, but it offers a fast processor, good camera and has Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board which should win in a few fans.

But despite its $300 price tag and impressive performance its design may cause users to look in a different direction.

The Acer ICONIA W511 features a 10 inch full HD touch display, an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, and is powered by an Intel Clover Trail processor with 2GB of RAM.

The ICONIA W511 has a 3540 mAh battery which offers 9 hours of usage on a single charge, which is around the same you will get out of an iPad or other high end Android tablet. Additionally docking your W511 will give you as much as 18 hours which should easily get you through a full day.

Acer Liquid C1 - Hands On Video


The Acer Liquid C1 may visually resemble most Android handsets, but its different in the fact that it is powered by an Intel Atom Processor. The handset features a a 4.3 inch qHD LCD touch display, 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded though microSD, an 8 megapixel camera, a secondary VGA camera for video calls and an 1.2GHz single-core Intel Atom Z2420 processor with 1GB of RAM.

The Phone runs  and has a 2000 mAh battery which should be enough to get you through a day. Acer has chosen to use a plastic body for the device, but the textured back should make it easy to grip. Additionally its 140 gram weight ensures that its not too heavy to handle.

Acer doesn't seem to have plans to bring this handset to the US where its easier getting a premium handset and subsidized prices. Instead they will focus on offering the Acer Liquid C1 primarily in the Southeast Asia region.

Acer Liquid Z2 - Hands On Video

The Acer Liquid Z2 is an entry-level Android handset which comes in an affordable price which would appeal to users on a budget. The device features a 3.5 inch touch display, 4GB of storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 3 or 5 megapixel camera and is powered by a 1GHz processor.

The 320 x 480 pixel resolution is somewhat low for a 3.5 inch display and you will likely see some pixelation when you read smaller text. Also keep in mind that you wont get the best viewing angles with this handset. The Liquid Z2 comes with either a 3 or 5 megapixel camera depending on whether you choose the dual or single SIM model. The camera lacks flash, but is yet capable for everyday use.

The handset features  which should perform reasonably well on this unit’s hardware.

Acer Liquid E1 - Hands On Video


Acer has introduced a few affordable Android handsets to the market at the ongoing MWC with the Acer Liquid E1 at the lead. The device features a 4.5 inch touch display with a 540 x 920 pixel resolution, 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 5 megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video capture, a secondary VGA camera for video calls and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM.

Despite the plastic material used on the device has a solid build and a patterned back which doesn't attract fingerprints. Additionally the device is quite light and has excellent viewing angles thanks to its excellent viewing angles.
