ZTE Grand S announced as the thinnest 5 inch full HD smartphone


The ZTE Grand S has been officially unveiled at the CES 2013 as the world’s thinnest 5 inch full HD display at just 6.9 mm thin. The Grand S features a 5 inch display with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 13 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary camera capable of 1080p HD video calls, and is powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB of RAM.

Sony Xperia ZL - Hands On

The Sony Xperia ZL is quite similar in specs with the Sony Xperia Z, but has specific design differences which makes it a unique offering. The differences may not be noticeable to everyone, but they are present. For example the Xperia ZL features a matter finish instead of the glossy finish of the Xperia Z, offering a cleaner look between the two. The Xperia ZL also doesn't feature the dust and water resistance of its sibling but offers a dedicated shutter key for quick photos, a front camera which is positioned in the lower right side of the screen and a plastic cover in the rear which covers the microSD and microSIM card slots.

Samsung ATIV Odyssey - Hands On

Samsung LogoThe Samsung ATIV Odyssey has finally been unveiled at the CES 2013 and will be heading to Verizon. The ATIV Odyssey is an entry-level Windows Phone which features a 4 inch Super AMOLED touch display with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, a 5 megapixel camera, a 2100 mAh battery and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. Samsung doesn't however offer wireless charging or NFC connectivity with this device.

The handset may not have the largest display in the market but design is comfortable easy to hold and conveniently pocket-able  Samsung has managed to make the device light-weight without making it feel cheap. BY omitting certain hardware features the ATIV Odyssey should be offered at a lower price than the Nokia Lumia 822 which is also available through Verizon.

Sony Xperia Z - Hands On Video


The Sony Xperia Z is the company’s newest flagship device and offers an amazing set of specifications similar to what we have recently seen on the HTC Droid DNA. The device features a 5 inch 1080p display which uses the Mobile BRAVIA 2 engine with high contrast, robust color reproduction and sharp viewing angles. The device includes a 13 megapixel auto-focus camera which features an Exmor RS sensor, LED flash and 1080p HD video recording. Additionally the device also features 4G LTE connectivity, a microSD card slot, 2330 mAh battery and NFC connectivity.

The Xperia Z is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor with 2GB of RAM which powers the Sony customized Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Sony is expected to release Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for the device sometime after launch.

Qualcomm introduces its new Snapdragon mobile processor lineup at CES 2013


Qualcomm has announced that they will be retiring their S1, S2, S3 and S4 series mobile chips and introducing a new generation of processors. The new chips will remain under the Snapdragon name but will have new number identifiers – 200, 400, 600 and 800. They also promise to offer impressive advances in power and speed.

Vizio unveils a 10 inch tablet with stock Android and a Tegra 4 processor

Vizio LogoVizio is best known for its TV sets, but it has expanded its boundaries by unveiling a 10 inch Vizio tablet  which is running the recently announced Tegra 4 processor. The tablet features a 10 inch display with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution which is similar to what’s available on the Google Nexus 10. The device also has 32GB of internal storage and the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (4.0) connectivity options. Another impressive feature about this tablet is its weight, as it claims to be lighter than similar products in its class.

Sony Xperia Z officially announced

The Sony Xperia Z is now official following its announcement at the Sony Press conference at CES 2013. The manufacturer has also announced that the device will be released starting March, giving users a chance to enjoy some of the great specifications that this handset has to offer.

The Xperia Z features a 5 inch 1080p HD display, a 13 megapixel Exmor RS camera, NFC, microSD storage, a 2330 mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. Additionally the Xperia Z is water resistant up to one meter which is achieved by glass panels in the front and back and plastic strips on the sides which protect the ports.

Sony Xperia ZL officially announced


The Sony Xperia ZL is a sibling of the Sony Xperia Z which looses the water resistance in favor of a thinner chassis. It also features a soft-touch curved back which is easy to handle in the hand. Additionally the Xperia ZL has a dedicated shutter key and its microSIM and microSD slots are located under a large flap at the back bottom.

In terms of specifications the Xperia ZL features a 5 inch touch display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, a 13 megapixel camera with HDR video recording capabilities, a secondary HD camera for video calls and is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro with 2GB of RAM.

Intel Bay Trail Atom processor announced

Intel LogoIntel has announced a new Atom processor codenamed ‘Bay Trail’ which are aimed at tablets. These quad-core processors are built using the 22nm manufacturing process which offers high efficiency and low power consumption. In terms of performance, the chip offers nearly two-times what is offered on current generation Atom ‘Clover Trail’ processors.

NVidia unveils Project Shield gaming console

NVidia kicked off their CES 2013 by unveiling their Tegra 4 chip with 72 graphics cores. They have now also revealed an open full fledged Android gaming console named Project Shield.

Project Shield is powered by a Tegra 4 processor and features a 5 inch touch display with a 1280 x 720 pixel display attached to a controller. The chip which resides inside the controller is capable of pushing 4K video over HDMI and has a state of the art sound system. You get a pure unaltered Android experience with access to the Play Store and services like GMail.

Lenovo Yoga 11S announced with Intel processor and full Windows 8


The Lenovo Yoga 11S has been announced to by the manufacturer who is expecting to release the device in June. This tablet-ultrabook hybrid will be available in multiple models with the base model costing $799 and featuring a 11.6 inch display with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, a Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB of memory and 128GB of solid state storage. You will probably get a chance to take a look at this device in person if you are visiting the ongoing CES is Las Vegas.

You have options with up to 256GB of storage, 8GB of RAM, Core i7 processors and up to 1600 x 900 pixel resolution.

Alcatel reveals OneTouch Scribe series with 5 inch displays and stylus

Sony says that have something extraordinary coming

CES 2013 is starting on Tuesday and Song has sent out an email which states “The extraordinary is coming”. The email also says that “In just three days we will introduce something extraordinary to the world and we can't wait to show you what it can do. Stay tuned for more...”

Sony expected to reveal the new Sony Xperia Z and the Sony Xperia ZL. While both devices have visual differences between them they share 5 inch displays with full HD (1080p) resolutions and quad-core processors.

Corning announces Gorilla Glass 3

Corning is getting set to reveal its next version of Gorilla Glass at the CES 2013. Gorilla Glass 3 will succeed Gorilla Glass 2 which was unveiled during last year’s CES. Gorilla Glass offered a thinner product while retaining the strength from the original Gorilla Glass. This year the plan is to improve toughness.

Corning claims that Gorilla Glass 3 will be three times more scratch resistant, offering a 40% reduction in the number of visible scratches and a 50% boost in retained strength after the glass becomes flawed.

CES 2013: Schedule for event for mobile enthusiasts


The holidays are coming to an end and we have reached that time of the year when we are getting ready to welcome a new generation of devices and technology. I am talking about the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 which is set to start in a few days at Las Vegas, Nevada in the U.S.

Officially the event is set to being on January 8, but most major announcements generally take place the day before that. There will be a lot of new things to see from companies like Samsung, LG and Sony who are hosting their on press events.

The CES is one of the best places for the latest in consumer electronics and we have put together a list of events which any mobile enthusiasts among our readers:
