T-Mobile announces free tablet offer, and BOGO MetroPCS smartphone deal

Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7Its the holiday season and T-Mobile is in the giving mood. The un-carrier has announced that it's going to give away free tablets and smartphones to its customers.

On November 21, existing T-Mobile customers can visit a participating stores and get the Alcatel ONETOUCH Pop 7 for $0 down and $0 payments. That means that the customer will only end up paying the sales tax on the device. The offer will be opened up to everyone on November 22.

T-Mobile introduces three new smartphones

T-Mobile has introduced the Alcatel One Touch Evolve, Alcatel One Touch Fierce and the Samsung Galaxy Light. Along with these three smartphones, the carrier also the Samsung LTE Mobile HotSpot PRO. The One Touch Evolve and the Samsung Hotspot will be available through the carrier starting today, while the other two smartphones will be headed to T-Mobile soon.

Alcatel OneTouch Idol Ultra - Video Review

The , which is priced at $300 offers some decent specs for its price. These specs include a 4.66 inch touch display with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, up to 16GB of internal storage  an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary 1.3 megapixel HD camera for video calls and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. Alcatel has done a nice job with the design of the One Touch Ultra which is sleek, easy to hold and light in the hand.

However it does come with some compromises like insufficient battery capacity, lack of a microSD slot and a problematic micro SIM slot, and the requirement of an adapter to plug in a standard headphone set.

Alcatel OneTouch Fire officially announced with Firefox OS, coming this summer

The Alcatel OneTouch Fire has been officially announced and is set for its first commercial launch in Europe and Latin America this summer. The One Touch Fire is an entry level Firefox OS smartphone which features a 3.5 inch display with a 320 by 480 pixel resolution, a 3.2 megapixel camera without flash which is capable of capturing VGA quality video at 30fps, FM radio, 512MB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD and is powered by a 1GHz MSM 7227 processor. While these may not match some of the top smartphones, the likely affordability should be warmly welcome in emerging markets.

Alcatel OneTouch Idol X - Hands On Video

The Alcatel OneTouch Idol X is the newest flagship from the company which was showcased at the ongoing MWC. The device features a 5.0 inch touch display with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary camera for video calls and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor .

The Idol X has been built thin at just 7.1 mm and light despite its large display, and is fairly compact as a result of its thin side bezel. Alcatel has used a soft touch texture on the rear of the device which comes in a variety of colors and resists fingerprints.

The device features features a 5.0 inch display with a 480 by 800 pixel resolution, 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 5 megapixel camera, a secondary camera for video calls, and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM.

The device is available in an array of colors – Red, Blue and Yellow and has a magnetic MagicFlip cover which protects the screen

The Alcatel One Touch Fire is one of first lineup of smartphones to run Firefox OS. The platform is definitely tailored to first-time smartphone owners and offers a refreshing alternative to the back and forth battle between Android and iOS.

The handset doesn’t boast excessive hardware with a 3.5 inch  touch display, 512 MB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 3.2 megapixel camera and is powered by a 1 GHz processor with 256 MB of RAM. But it has the power it needs to run the HMTL-5 based Firefox OS with ease.

The interface makes it easy to quickly locate contacts, apps, texts or media and you will have access to the Firefox browser which is an extension to its desktop counterpart and even includes its extensions you know and love.

The Alcatel One Touch Star is one of the handsets the company showcased at the ongoing MWC offers a reasonable set of specifications for a mid-range smartphone. The device features a 4.0 inches WVGA AMOLED display with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded though microSD, a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, a secondary camera for video calls, and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM.

The handset runs  which runs fluidly with the onboard hardware and has a 1500mAh battery which should last you through the day. Unfortunately the camera quality isn't among the best of its class and performs slower than you would expect it to.

Despite having a plastic build and feeling hefty it is important to note that this is meant to please someone's first entry into the smartphone world. Check out the One Touch Star in action in the following hands on video.

Firefox OS devices coming from ZTE, Alcatel, Huawei and LG

Mozilla has announced that they are partnering with four device manufacturers – LG, Huawei, ZTE, Alcatel to build devices based on their HTML5 based Firefox OS. The have also reported that 18 carriers across the globe have confirmed that they will offer these devices. It has also been confirmed that Firefox OS will feature apps like Facebook, Twitter and games like Cut the Rope.

The handsets are expected to be entry level devices which will bridge the gap between traditional smartphones with native apps and feature phones.
