7 million Dropbox usernames and passwords leaked online; Dropbox denies hack

Dropbox for Android7 million users Dropbox have found their usernames and passwords have been stolen. The alleged hacker has already leaked 400 of these accounts on Pastebin and is threatening to release more if he is compensated through Bitcoin donations.

British mobile retailer, Phones 4u "faces administration" as carriers cut ties

Phones 4uBritish third-party mobile retailer, Phones 4u, entered into "administration" on Sunday evening. "Administration" is similar to filing for bankruptcy reorganization in the United States. Apparently this was not caused by a lack of profit making, rather, it was the fact that UK carriers O2, Vodafone, and now EE, have severed ties with the retailer.

AT&T to offer Wi-Fi calling in 2015

AT&TRalph de la Vega, president and CEO of AT&T's Mobile and Business Solutions group, announced on Friday in New York, that the carrier will go live with Wi-Fi Calling sometime next year. The announcement was made at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference.

Sprint's new CEO, Marcelo Claure is hard at work bringing life back to the company which has been on a downward spiral. Admitting that he believes the customers' general perception of the carrier to be negative, the new CEO's plan to salvage the carrier includes price cuts, straightforward and easy-to-understand plans, and, unfortunately, some layoffs. One of his changes was to put an end to the Sprint Framily Plan.

T-Mobile schedules UNcarrier 5.0 event for June 18

T-MobileT-Mobile has been making huge strides recently, and it all is due to its UNcarrier initiative which have disrupted the wireless industry as a whole in the US. Now, T-Mobile is getting ready to unveil the next step in the UNcarrier movement, and will hold the UNcarrier 5.0 event on Wednesday June 18th in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, it is not clear what the carrier has planned.

Apple has (finally) made an official announcement that it will be purchasing Beats Audio for a sum of $3 billion. This is the largest purchase that Apple has made in its history, and represents a significant amount of the company's $160 billion value.

AT&T to purchase DirectTV


AT&T has announced that their plans to purchase DirectTV, which will give the carrier access to 20 million DirectTV customers. This would theoretically, make them more competitive with Comcast, which is in the midst of their own merger with Time Warner Cable.

Facebook purchases WhatsApp for $16 billion

Facebook has acquired the hugely popular WhatsApp cross-platform messaging application for a cool $16 billion. This includes $12 billion worth of Facebook shares and $4 billion in cash. Jan Koum, WhatsApp co-founder and CEO, will join Facebook’s Board of Directors.

At the moment, WhatsApp has more than 450 million monthly users combined  across Android, iOS, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and even select Asha and Symbian devices.

Google I/O 2014 officially announced for June 25 and June 26 in San Francisco

Google has officially announced that its I/O developer conference will take place on June 25th and June 26th, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. One thing different will be the registration process. Unlike past years where those seeking tickets had to use the same process reserved for rock shows, Google will ask you to indicate your desire to attend. From that group, random people will be selected to attend the show.

Google is expected to introduce the new registration process next month. Last year, the show took place in May.

Viber acquired by Rakuten

Viber for AndroidThis Tuesday, Viber's CEO, Talmon Marco, dismissed rumors of acquisition by an Asian company. Only four days later, the VoIP service is now property of Rakuten. The Japanese e-commerce giant has bought Viber for $900 million. It owns Rakuten Ichiba, the largest e-commerce site in Japan. Since 2005, its list of acquisitions has expanded with Buy.com, Priceminister, Ikeda , Tradoria, Play.com, Wuaki.tv, and Kobo Inc.

Steve Ballmer responds to Satya Nadella's appointment as Microsoft's CEO

Today is a historical day at Microsoft, as Satya Nadella takes over as the software giant's third CEO. Microsoft founder Bill Gates took over a new position of Technology Advisor while John Thompson was named the new Chairman of Board of Directors. Since Steve Ballmer announced that he would be stepping down as Microsoft's CEO, the company has been working hard to find a suitable replacement. The new CEO is faced with a huge task of bringing Microsoft into the modern era, dominated by mobile devices.

Satya sent out his first email as Microsoft's new chief, introducing his plans for the company's future. Former CEO Steve Ballmer also sent out an email to Microsoft employees which reads as follows:

Satya NadellaSatya Nadella has taken the reigns as the Microsoft's third CEO, following Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. The moves come during a time of great change at Microsoft, which is attempting to transform itself from an aging software giant to a more versatile devices-and-services company. Founder Bill Gates has also transitioned to a new role as technology adviser, from his former position as Chairman.

"During this time of transformation, there is no better person to lead Microsoft than Satya Nadella," Gates said in a statement. "His vision for how technology will be used and experienced around the world is exactly what Microsoft needs as the company enters its next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth."

Following his appointment as Microsoft's CEO, Nadella has sent out his first email to Microsoft Employees under his new position.

Microsoft has named Satya Nadella, as its new Chief Executive Officer. Previously, he was executive vice president of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, responsible for building and running the company’s computing platforms, developer tools and cloud services. Company founder Bill Gates, has also stepped down from his role as chairman for a new role as technology adviser.

Nokia shareholders approve Microsoft acquisition

Nokia's shareholders have put a seal of approval on the pending Microsoft acquisition of the “Devices and Services” phone business of the Finnish company. The stockholders gave the deal the green light at the general meeting at the Helsinki Ice Hall today. Microsoft has earlier extended a $7.2 billion (€5.4 billion) offer to purchase Nokia and an overwhelming 99.7% of the shareholders voted in favor of the acquisition.
