Sony is currently seeding out the Android 4.4.4 KitKat software update for the Sony Xperia Z. The update is currently available to users in France, but should eventually be available to all Xperia Z units around the world.

Sony Xperia Z for T-Mobile receives Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software update

The Sony Xperia Z for T-Mobile (C6606) is reportedly receiving the  software update, with the 10.4.C.0.814 build number. Up until now, T-Mobile Xperia Z owners had been stuck on firmware build 10.3.1.E.0.191 and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The good news is that we can confirm that this firmware build relates to an upgrade from Android 4.2.2 to Android 4.3.

Sony Xperia Z receives Android 4.4 KitKat ROM

The LG Optimus G and the Google Galaxy Nexus have already gotten to taste Android 4.4 KitKat. Now the Sony Xperia Z gets its chance to savor the latest version of Android in the form of an unofficial Android 4.4 KitKat ROM.

Aside from the Google Nexus 5, the Xperia Z is the first 2013 flagship to receive a KitKat ROM.

Sony Xperia Z is now available on T-Mobile

The Sony Xperia Z for T-Mobile is  now available for purchase through the carrier's website. Despite initial reports suggesting that the device will only be available for pre-order starting tomorrow it appears that the device is already available for purchase.

The handset is available in black and purple and those who purchase it will receive free overnight shipping along with a Sony Bluetooth wireless speaker.These are limited time, online-only offers.

Sony Xperia Z receives Android 4.2.2 software update

The Sony Xperia Z is now receiving the Android 4.2.2 software update which is the latest version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The Xperia Z with the C6603 model number which is the unlocked International version will be the first to receive the update, with the other variants to follow.

You should receive a notification when the update is available for your unit, at which point you can initiate it. We suggest using Wi-Fi in order to avoid unnecessary data charges. You will also be able to update your device using the Sony PC Companion.

Sony Xperia ZL receives Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software update

Sony promised to release the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the Sony Xperia Z and the Sony Xperia ZL soon after their launch. And even though the Xperia ZL arrived weeks after the Xperia Z, it looks like it will be the first of the two to receive the latest version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Currently the update is rolling out to users across Europe who own the C6503 of the Xperia ZL (LTE) model. You can get the update through the Sony PC Companion tool or over-the-air. The other models in other countries can expect the update rollout in the coming weeks.

Leaked Android 4.2.2 update demonstrated on Sony Xperia Z

While most Sony Xperia Z users eagerly await the release of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on their devices, it doesn't stop the adventurous from installing leaked versions of the update. Looking at the leaks it may not be long before the final version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean arrives for Xperia Z owners.

The Xperia Z which came with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean installed features a 5 inch full HD touch display with a Mobile BRAVIA engine, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 13 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary HD camera for video calls and is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor with 2GB of RAM.

Lumia 925 takes on top competitors in low light photography challenge

We recently saw the Nokia Lumia 925 go head to head against the HTC One in an attempt to seal its dominance in low light photography. The Lumia 925 has a 8.7 megapixel PureView camera with Carl Zeiss optics, optical image stabilization and support for ISO speeds up to 3200.

Now the device takes on more challengers in the form of the the Sony Xperia Z, Samsung Galaxy S IV, Apple iPhone 5 alongside the HTC One in a series of low light photos. The flash is not used on any of the cameras during the tests.

Sony has done a wonderful job designing this device and we feel it has what it nees to compete with the top smartphones in the market. However keep in mind that we have still to see what Samsung, HTC and LG have to offer for 2013 and if the Xperia Z can continue its dominance as top smartphone.

The new Sony Xperia Z features a 13 megapixel camera with a Exmore RS sensor and promises to be one of the camera-phones in the year ahead. Sony Xperia Z - HDR video samples

The Sony Xperia Z is the upcoming flagship which offers a unique feature which allows it to capture both High Dynamic Range (HDR) image and video capture through its 13 megapixel Exmor RS camera. It does this by merging video clips with different exposures on the fly to record the most distinctive scenes in various dynamic situations.

These could include sunlit windows or bright objects near darker ones in a frame. Generally these images are overexposed or you may experience “burn” in those areas.

Sony Xperia Z pricing revealed


The Sony Xperia Z takes on the role at the company’s newest flagship with water and dust resistance delivered in an outstanding design. While we know the details and specifications of this device Sony has still to officially reveal the pricing. Now UK retailer Clove has revealed that the Sony Xperia Z will cost £528 with Value Added Tax (£440 without VAT)

That’s in line with the price of the Samsung Galaxy Note II in U.K., and hopefully this will mean that the pricing of the Xperia Z will be in line with the Galaxy Note II in the U.S. and Europe as well.
