[Windows app] VLC for Windows 8 now available, coming soon to Windows RT and Windows Phone

VLC for Windows 8The VideoLan team has finally released the first beta version of long-awaited Metro-inspired VLC media player for Windows 8 devices. VLC Play for Windows 8 will play several multimedia file formats similar to its desktop counterpart.

Nokia MixRadioNokia has rebranded their Nokia Music service as Nokia MixRadio starting today by launching an updated Windows 8 app with a new interface, and new features. The latest 1.5.1.6043 version brings two notable small changes to the Windows 8 app - The app is now called Nokia MixRadio and sports the new logo/branding.

Microsoft releases new SmartGlass app for Xbox One

Xbox One SmartglassWith the Xbox One due out on Friday, Microsoft has released a new SmartGlass app for their new console. The app is available across all platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows Phone 8, Windows 8 and Windows RT. Last week it was Sony who updated their PlayStation companion app for their PlayStation 4 release. Its good to see that Microsoft is not wasting any time ensuring that their console is readily welcome by the public.

Sony VAIO Tap 11 tablet announced with Windows 8

The Sony VAIO Tap 11 is a new tablet which is almost as thin and light as the Apple iPad  and is touted as the "world's thinnest Windows 8 tablet" by Sony. The device features a 11.6 inch Triluminous touch display with a 1080 by 1920 pixel resolution, up to 512GB of SSD storage, 4th generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors and up to 4GB of RAM.

The list of leaked Nokia product codenames are Bandit, Lanai, Orion, Pegasus, Rivendell, Shorty and Sirius.

Microsoft Surface Pro receives $100 discount

The has been discounted by $100 for both its 64GB and 128GB variants. The Surface Pro features a 10.6-inch display with a 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution, two cameras and is powered by a Intel Core i5 processor with 4GB of RAM.

The discount could indicate that a successor to the Surface Pro is around the corner. The discount could also be in favor of the back to school sales which most retailers and manufactures are offering these days.
