Motorola Moto G (2014) becomes first to savor Android 5.0 Lollipop update

Motorola Moto G (2014)

Well technically the Nexus 9 is the first Android 5.0 Lollipop device, but the Motorola Moto G (2014) has become the first smartphone to receive the software update. While manufacturers are hard at work building the update for their flagships, Motorola has managed to beat Google's Nexus line and become the first to bring Lollipop to their devices.

Early reports suggest that the unlocked version of the Moto G was receiving the OTA update today. So it will likely be awhile before the carrier models are updated to the latest version of Android. The company is also working on bringing the Lollipop update for their Moto X (2014).

Last year's Moto G is also expected to receive the Lollipop update, but it is not known when Motorola will update the rest of their devices. The popular device also has an LTE version, and a Google Play Edition model under its name. We reckon it wont be too long, given that all Moto G models have very similar hardware.

One of the reasons Motorola manages to quickly release Android updates is that they offer a near stock experience on their devices. While they do have several experience-enhancing apps, those have been exported to the Google Play Store, so that their updates are sent out quickly without any bloat or burden.

While its not clear how the Moto G managed to beat its flagship Moto X with the update, its likely due to its popularity and lesser customization. Leave us a comment below if you have received Android 5.0 Lollipop on your Moto G 2014.
