LG Fireweb announced as company's first Firefox OS device

Firefox OS by Mozilla is a standalone platform based on the philosophy of open web, meaning no proprietary tech or software. The platform represents one of very few alternative mobile OSes that are actually commercially available in some parts of the world. LG has come forward to support this platform alongside manufacturers like Alcatel, Huawei and ZTE and have released their first device in the form of the LG Fireweb.

The LG Fireweb doesn't expect to overwhelm you as it is clearly aimed at developing markets. The device features a 4 inch touch display with a 480 by 320 pixel resolution, 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 5 megapixel camera which comes with LED flash and autofocus and a 1GHz Qualcomm processor.

The LG Fireweb will be initially sold through Telefonica's Vivo Brazil for about $207 for pay-as-you-go customers and $59 on a regular subscription. The carrier has also announced that it'll be launching Firefox OS devices in other nearby markets, including Peru, Uruguay and Mexico.
