The Samsung Galaxy Gear was welcomed with much anticipation, which quickly died away when it was announced that the company's first smartwatch could only be paired with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Samsung may have beaten Apple with a new consumer electronic product, but according to a published report out of Korea, the mixed response to its smartwatch has put Korean OEM Samsung back to square one in what is expected to be a crowded marketplace.
The high pricing of the Galaxy Note 3 and the less than impressive battery life of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch can also be attributed to the public disappointment.
Its clear than Samsung rushed the Galaxy Gear in order to rival Apple's upcoming iWatch. But seeing that Apple has run into delays in manufacturing its smartwatch, which isn't expected until mid 2014, Samsung seems to have shifted gears and returned to the drawing board.
New speculations suggest that a Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 equipped with GPS capabilities to offer location data, and could be compatible with all Android smartphones. This sequel to the Galaxy Gear smartwatch could be unveiled as early as CES 2014 this January in Las Vegas or at MWC 2014 in February.
