BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is headed to both iOS and Android platforms. The company announced their plans to port their messaging platform back in May and have been reportedly testing the service on both iOS and Android. Recent rumors have suggested that BlackBerry could be relaunching BBM as a cross-platform messaging solution within the next few days, with the scheduled media event expected to be used as a platform for the launch.
However it looks like APK file for the Android platform has prematurely leaked out to the public.
Unfortunately the leaked APK comes with a catch. Users who intend to get involved with the new BBM will first of all have to have their BlackBerry IDs authenticated with BlackBerry’s servers before the product will work. Unless you are an official beta tester of this port, then it’s unlikely that your ID will be able to sign into the leaked app.
So even though you get to enjoy the esthetically pleasing BBM Messenger for Android, it serves as nothing more than a visual example until the service is available to the public after its launch. If you are interested in checking it out or already have a valid BBM account you can download the APK below or by following the source link below.
We are very curious to see what the future holds for BlackBerry and is their decision to offer BBM as a cross platform messaging solution has the desired results. If the September 18th launch becomes a relaity, we wont have long to find out.
