LG Optimus G2 will feature octo-core Odin chip

LG LogoLast year LG stated that they would be building mobile processors in house for their smartphones. This report has been confirmed over the weekend by a Korean publication which cites an unnamed LG official as its source.

The first home brewed processor from LG is reportedly going to be using in the upcoming LG Optimus G2 and is codenamed Odin. The new handset will reportedly be on sale in time for the 2013 holiday season.

Odin is said to resemble Samsung’s  design, and will use eight cores – four Cortex A15 and four Cortex A7. It will be designed using an ARM big.LITTLE architecture aimed at providing superior performance and power consumption.

LG Electronics is going to mass-produce the Odin processors by using finer 28-nanometer level processing, applying high-k metal gate (HKMG) technology. The processors will be used in LG’s next flagship Optimus smartphone ― the Optimus GII ― which will probably be unveiled in this fall’s IFA trade fair. Odin is a major god in Norse mythology and the ruler of Asgard. LG Electronics hopes to make big impact on the global mobile application market...

The LG official also stated that the TSMC will undertake the process of manufacture the processors as the company doesn't have its own chip-manufacturing facilities like Samsung.
