Five reasons not to buy the Google Nexus 4

The Google Nexus 4 is easily one of the hottest handsets in the market today. Mainly because it is never available and users are clambering to get their hands on one of these exclusive devices. So what makes this LG manufactured handset so hot?

The Nexus 4 features a 4.7 inch HD touch display, up to 16GB of internal storage an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture and will be powered by a quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM.

This is high end hardware, but Google decided to offer this device at a very affordable price. The 8GB Nexus 4 costs only $299 which is what some carriers charged for subsidized devices. You can also opt for the 16GB model which will cost $350 which is still very affordable.

The other advantage is that it runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which is the newest version of Android which has only made its way to the Nexus lineup. Nexus devices like the Nexus 4 are always in the front line for the latest updates.

But is the Nexus 4 really such a hot device deserving all the hype? We have five reasons why you shouldn’t buy the Nexus 4, so read on and let us know what you think.

1) Hard to Purchase

The Nexus 4 has been one of the hardest devices to purchase. Since the device was launched it has hardly been available on the Google Play Store with stock quickly being sold out and users left to purchase devices at exorbitant prices on eBay.

It was clear that Google didn’t anticipate the demand for their new smartphone and were never stocked to matched the demand. As a result, users are left with next to no option to purchase the handset. The Nexus 4 maybe affordable, but there are other options which are similarly priced yet easily available.

2) Poor storage options

The Nexus 4 is only available in 8GB and 16GB variants with no microSD expansion. Google recently discontinued their 8GB Nexus 7 tablet and even Amazon recently deemed that 8GB wasn’t enough for an HD capable device. So why would anyone be satisfied with an 8GB Nexus 4? Its true that there are cloud storage options, but with the wide selection of apps and content available on the Google Play Store it wont be long before you run out of storage space.

3) Poor Battery Life

Despite being a premium handset, the nexus 4 has poor battery life which barely gets you through the day with vigorous use. The Nexus 4 does feature wireless and USB charging. But if you have tried to charge your device on your USB port, you will quickly realize that you will need your cable if you want to quickly charge this device.

Android handsets have always had issues with their battery life management and its disappointing that a Google device does such a bad job preserving its battery.

4) No LTE connectivity

We live in a world which demands specs and while the Nexus 4 delivers on most avenues it falls short on connectivity. It does support HSPA+ which is fast enough to satisfy most customers but with many new devices supporting LTE connectivity it’s disappointing that Google chose to omit it on the Nexus 4.

5) Easily breakable

The Nexus 4 is a beautiful handset. In fact it is probably the most beautiful Nexus smartphone to date. The build quality is greatly attributed to LG who draws inspiration from their Optimus G, which has front and rear glass panels. But what makes the device beautiful has also made it very easily breakable. Users have accidently dropped their Nexus 4 have found their devices shattered.

Buying a Nexus 4 means you will have to buy a protective case and that would obviously spoil the appeal of the device.
