VLC media player coming to Windows RT and Windows Phone 8

The VLC team behind the popular VLC media player is planning to bring their app to Windows 8, Windows RT. Since there is no comprehensive player currently available on the Windows Store, this is great news for Windows RT users. Currently the team has launched a Kickstarter project campaign and interested users can help by contributing to the project.

Because of the support from the community, the team have even decided to port the app over to Windows Phone 8 devices.

The developers have even reached out to Microsoft to help port the Windows 8 version to Windows Phone 8 and have received a positive response from Redmond.
We've been in touch with Microsoft representatives, who are thrilled about our endeavor and ready to collaborate with us. They are looking into ways of supporting us directly through non-financial matters, notably hardware, technical and design help. This is great news.
There was initial concern of the success of this project because of the number of codecs which VLC supports. But it turns out that the GNU GPL licenses are compatible with Microsoft’s requirements and the team even hopes to distribute their codes through the Windows Store.

If you want to contribute to the project, head over to the source link for more information on how you can help.
