Skype for Windows Phone 8 demonstrated on HTC 8X

After Microsoft acquired Skype late last year it was expected that application would be deeply integrated into future versions of Windows. When Microsoft releases Windows 8 on October 26th we will get an idea of how Skype will be a part of the desktop and tablet environment, but a recently released video shows us a glimpse of what we can expect from Skype on Windows Phone 8.

Skype will be a native app on Windows Phone 8 and will run in the background. It will be integrated with the People Hub and will ring with the default Skype ringtone making it easy to identify between Skype and normal calls. You can even initiate group chats from the contact profiles. One feature which is not demonstrated in the video is if Skype messaging will be integrated into the Windows Phone Messaging app. Currently the app allows linking your SMS, MMS, Facebook Chat and Windows Live Messenger and it would only make sense for Skype to be included. We could hope that the feature was just missed in the video demo.

Watch the following video demo of Skype running on the HTC Windows Phone 8X and leave us a comment of what you think

Skype on Windows Phone 8 is a definite improvement over the current experience on Windows Phone 7.5 and we cant wait to test it out when the platform is publicly available.
