Apple iPad mini officially announced

Today Apple officially announced the Apple iPad Mini during today’s special event. The iPad mini is a smaller variant of the regular iPad making it easier to handle and carry compared to its larger counterpart. It features a 7.9 inch touch display, up to 64GB of internal storage, a 5 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary camera for video calls, optional 3G/4G connectivity and is powered by an Apple A5 dual-core processor.

The device is 7.2 millimeters thin and weighs 308 grams making it 53% lighter than the Apple iPad 4, which was also announced today.

The display diagonally measures 7.9 inches with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, which is the same as the Apple iPad 2, which will allow the device to run all the apps which worked well on the iPad. Apple claims that the iPad mini will offer users a superior experience because of its larger display size compared to the 7 inch tablets in the market, especially for web browsing.

The The iPad mini features a 5 megapixel iSight camera, which promises the same quality of the Apple iPad 3. It also has an HD camera in the front for FaceTime video calls. Apple gives users the option of choosing an LTE variant of the iPad Mini, which will allow you to take the device with you when you are on the go. The device will give the same amazing 10 hour battery life, despite its smaller size and the features it has to offer. Apple has powered the iPad mini with an Apple A5 dual-core processor, which is the same processor which powers the iPad 2 and the Apple iPhone 4S.

The iPad mini is the most affordable iPad to date, with its 16GB variant costing just $329. The 32GB will cost you $429 while the 64GB version costs $529. Adding 4G LTE to the model will cost an additional $130 on each model. If you live in the US, you can get the LTE version of the iPad mini through Verizon, AT&T or Sprint.

The iPad mini will be available for pre-order starting October 26, and the Wi-Fi model will start shipping by November 2nd.
