While RIM continues to struggle to find its place in mobile market, CEO Thorsten Heins has a positive outlook on what the future holds for the BlackBerry platform. He believes that the company has what it takes to shift itself into third place in the market.
Heins had the following to say during the BlackBerry Jam Americas conference:
"We have a clear shot at being the number three platform on the market. We're not just another open platform on the market, we are BlackBerry".
But does the BlackBerry name still strike the same loyalty as it did a couple of years ago? Yes, once the BlackBerry brand was synonymous with words like security, productivity, innovation, smart and quality. But it seams like those days are long gone as the company tries to play catch up in a fast paced race.
The BB10 platform looks solid based on the Developer Device running the latest BB10 beta, but the question is whether they have what it takes to wrestle third place away from the Windows Phone platform which is currently building it's hype around its desktop counterpart.
RIM's target should be the developers, Apple has proven the success of a platform relies greatly on developer support and RIM should work hard to build its relationship with its developers. While Microsoft did build developer interest with Windows Phone 7, they have decided to reboot their efforts yet again with Windows Phone 8. RIM has a chance and I am sure they wont let it slip by them.
