Apple iPhone 5 jailbroken

The Apple iPhone 5 running iOS 6.0 has already been jailbroken. The information comes from respected iPhone developer Grant Paul (chpwn), who tweeted a picture of the new iPhone’s homescreen with the Cydia icon.

iPhone-5-JailbreakHowever there is no timeline on when the update will be available to the public. Last year it took a couple of months before the untethered jailbreak was finally ready and the team will have to work on updating their tool for the new A6 processor. However if the screenshot is true, we are certainly on the right track.

Meanwhile the redsn0w tool has been updated for iOS 6.0 and a tethered jailbreak is available for devices running an A4 or low processor. These include the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 4 running iOS 6.0. You can find a step-by-step guide here.

Anyone with a new iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or the iPod Touch 5 will have to wait for those devices to be welcomed into the ‘jailbreak’ world.

Developers like Grant Paul work hard to give users the freedom to use their iOS devices the way they want to, and they offer these solutions for free. So all we can do now as a user community is to be patient and wait until they are ready with the solution.
