Samsung Wave receives Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich port

The Samsung Wave may run Samsung's BADA OS by default, but some developers have managed to port Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich onto the device. Its not common for a non Android device to get an Android ROM so its nice to see the skilled developers at work.

However this port is not recommended on a device you use on a day to day basis. While the camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work, Users wont be able to take calls or send SMS messages once you have updated as these features are still "work in progress".

The screenshot of ICS running on the Samsung Wave suggests that the UI is upside down. We are not certain if this is one of the current issues with the port and figure it will be quite an inconvenience if it is.

The Samsung Wave doesn't have the highest specs compared to some of the modern hardware marvels in the smartphone world. With a 3.3 inch display and a 1GHz processor, its configuration would be considered mid range at best.

However considering that Samsung has moved on from the project having merged BADA with Intel's Tizen It is great that some hard working developers are dedicating their time to breath some life into these devices. Based on the success of this project the Samsung Wave II may also see its share of Android one of these days.
