SkyDrive on Windows 8


Microsoft SkyDrive is a part of the company's Windows Live services and will see a huge evolution in the upcoming Windows 8 operating system. The service will evolve from the website it is today into a full cloud based storage service.

Microsoft has outlined the following features which we will see when Windows 8 is released.
  • Tiled based, touch optimized Metro style app for Windows 8
  • SkyDrive integration into Windows Explorer.
  • Remotely access your files through SkyDrive.com

Metro Style app
Microsoft has invested into their Metro tile basedUI which was first demonstrated on Windows Phone. SkyDrive will be available as a Metro app and you can browse through your online files as you would browse files on your computer. Since the SkyDrive allows you to store photos, documents or folder, they will all be clearly demonstrated and displayed for easy access.


Because of it's deep integration into Windows you will be able to access your SkyDrive while you within other apps to attach files or even save a new file into your SkyDrive.

With the 25GB of free space that Microsoft offers in the cloud with SkyDrive you have a service which is unmatched by it's competitors.


SkyDrive desktop client
With Windows 8 Microsoft will also offer a desktop client for SkyDrive similar to Dropbox. The client will integrate into Windows Explorer and be available through apps like Microsoft Office.

  • Drag and drop files from your computer into your SkyDrive
  • Access your files from anywhere
  • Offline access to your files through Windows Explorer.
The SkyDrive desktop apps will also be available for Windows 7 and Windows Vista



Remote Access your files through SkyDrive
You are no longer going to be restricted to just 25GB of storage. With Windows 8 your entire PC can be your own personal cloud storage. You can browse, access and stream files from your local computers connected to your Live account through SkyDrive.com. Windows 8 will bring the power of Live Mesh into the new SkyDrive ensuruing you will never forget a file again.
