Amazon Kindle Fire receives software updated


The Amazon Kindle Fire has been selling quite successfully since it's launch and has been Amazon's top selling product for 8 straight weeks. Amazon has now released a firmware update to their first tablet taking the software to version 6.2

Amazon has not provided a detailed changelog but have stated that the update brings "improvements to the operation of your Kindle Fire". You will also have Facebook preinstalled in your favorite section. Other features include access to hundreds of magazines in the Newsstand, Switching between page views and textviews for preferred readability, Children's Books with Kindle text pop-up and the ability to check mail from Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail through the Mail app.

In order to install the update you will have to be running the 6.0 or 6.1 version of the software. You can check your version by heading over to the Quick Settings icon, Selecting More and Select Device.

Once you have made sure you are not already using version 6.2 you can follow these instructions to install the latest version of the software.

For automatic update
  1. Connect your Kindle Fire to your Wi-Fi
  2. Go to Quick Settings on the upper right of your screen.
  3. The software update will download in the background and install when the device is asleep.

For manual update
  1. Download Version 6.2
  2. Connect your Kindle to your Computer through the provided USB cable.
  3. Copy the update file into your kindleupdates folder on your Kindle drive.
  4. Go to Kindle Fire Settings on your device and select 'Update your Kindle'.
