Nokia N9 receives (PR 1.1) software update


We reported some time ago that the Nokia N9 was going to receive a firmware update, and it looks like the day has come. N9 users have been receiving notifications of the update is now available for their devices.

The new PR1.1 update (20.2011.40.4) offers performance improvements along with new features for the device. Nokia claims that there are 308 enhancements added, so users should be getting quite a dramatic new experience on their devices.

The overall user experience has been improved on the device and there is said to be visual improvements as well. Some of the other new features included are
  • NFC tag reading to instantly interact with NFC tags
  • Music controls on lock screen
  • Photo and video shooting with color filters: black & white, sepia, vivid, negative, solarize
  • More powerful multitasking with improved memory handling
  • Swype for fast typing
  • Faster MfE synch, synchronizing only active folders
  • Noise cancellation reduces background noise so that your friends hear you better
  • Close apps easily with swiping down, this now on by default
  • New indicators for standby screen like charging and calendar

The update will be made available Over The Air (OTA) and you should receive a notification as we mentioned above, but if you have not you can manually check under settings > applications > manage applications.
