Portfolio of buyers eyeing webOS

When HP purchased WebOS from Palm for 1.2 billion, we had high hopes for the platform. But after a failed attempt to capture sufficient demand for the device HP has decided not to manufacture WebOS hardware and the operating system is up for sale.

Since the price has been lowered to the 'hundreds of millions' range reports show that the sale has narrowed down to four potential buyers - Amazon, IBM, Intel and Research in Motion (RIM).
WebOS is a mature mobile operating system with a lot of potential. If whomever walks away with the deal can come up with a great product we can be sure that the platform will be back in demand soon. However the rebranding process may take some time, so the company which purchases the platform will have to have brand recognition in the mobile industry before being able to capture a share in the market.
