HTC tops smartphone shipments in the U.S.

HTC has become the biggest smartphone manufacturer in the U.S. This news comes from Canalys who has reported that the last quarter data shows HTC having shipped the most handsets to U.S. retailers compared to the other manufacturers.

While this doesn't reflect actual unit sales, it is still quite and impressive achievement. The Taiwanese company recorded 5.7 million shipped smartphones, compared to the 4.9 million by Samsung and the 4.6 million by Apple in the third quarter of 2011. I am a little surprise after Samsung and Apple have been  boasting unit sales

RIM is probably the company with the largest downfall in the last year. Device shipment has dropped from 24% to 9% since last year despite introducing new devices full touchscreen devices running BlackBerry OS 7.
