Nokia's invasion of U.S. soil with their Windows Phone devices is eminent. But the company is planning on something interesting before that comes to pass. They have partnered with the New York Metropolitan Authority (MTA) to offer commuters to do their ticketing using Near Field Communication (NFC) on their smartphones.
This news was announced during Nokia World which took place last week. Nokia announced that they have signed a deal with the MTA which will enable it to test NFC ticketing and allow users to bring NFC payments in early 2012. Users who own a Nokia 603 will be the first to get in on the action, but once Windows Phones from Nokia debut they with native support for this technology and we should see NFC used by Nokia phones much more.
