[Guide] How to enable the Android Market on the Amazon Kindle Fire


The Amazon Kindle Fire comes with access to it's own Android store and app ecosystem independent of Google's app services. This guide tells you how to install the Android Market on your Kindle Fire, and thus bringing the best of both worlds to  the Amazon tablet.

NOTE - This process is for advanced users. Please understand that mistakes may result in bricked (no functional) hardware, and the process of rooting us not recommended unless you understand the outcomes and consequences of your actions.

NOTE - Please do not hold this website/blog responsible for any issues you may encounter as a result of this process. The outcome may be unrecoverable, and we advise only advanced users to continue using this guide.

NOTE - The process of installing Google proprietary apps on a non Google supported device is not recommended. We would recommend that you purchase a Google supported device to get access to Google's Services. This guide is meant for educational purposes only.

REQUIREMENTS - Before proceeding you will need to root your device. The guide to root you Amazon Kindle Fire can be found here.

REQUIREMENTS - Make sure you have enabled 'Allow Installation of Applications from unknown sources' by going to Settings > Device

  1. Download GoogleServicesFramework.apk
  2. Download Vending.apk
  3. Download Root Explorer (The app will cost you $3.99, If you prefer a free alternate make sure it supports read/write permissions)
  4. Download Go Launcher EX
Now lets begin the installation process
  1. Transfer the GoogleServicesFramework.apk and Vending.apk files to your Kindle Fire, and remember the location they are saved in.
  2. Run Root Explorer and navigate to where you saved the .apk files.
  3. Select and install GoogleServicesFramework.apk when complete click Done.
  4. Select Vending.apk. Long press on the file and select Move from the popup menu
  5. Navigate to System > App
  6. Change RO (Read Only) to RW (Read/Write)
  7. Paste Vending.apk in this folder
  8. Long Press on Vending.apk and choose permissions from the pop-up window which appears.
  9. Modify the permissions so they are identical to the other apps in the same folder (RW-R-R)
  10. Reboot your device.
You can also install a third party launcher like ADW or Go Launcher to make it look more like a regular android device. 
  1. Transfer the GO Launcher.apk file to your Kindle Fire, and remember the location they are saved in.
  2. Run Root Explorer and navigate to where you saved the .apk files.
  3. Select and install GO Launcher.apk when complete click Done.
  4. Press the Home button
  5. You can select the Go Launch app to change to a more Android like UI.
You can follow these instructions to install other launcher programs if you prefer.
