Sony Ericsson attacks fansite

I personally feel its the blogger and fan site communities that keep the mobile industry going, so this came as quite a surprise when I found that Sony Ericsson was suing a fan site. The website XperiaBlog.net which is dedicated to Sony Ericsson's Xperia lineup of devices has been asked to transfer their domain name along with XperiaX10.net to Sony Ericsson.

The website has announced that it will be shutting down as it cannot afford a legal battle with the mobile giant.

“We do not have the resources to fight Sony Ericsson on this and therefore this is the last you will hear from us. Sony Ericsson has made great strides in its Xperia portfolio, especially in listening to the community. This makes it all the more confusing as to why Sony Ericsson would want to shut us down. We genuinely believe that 2012 could be a bumper year for the company, we just wish we could have been there along for the ride.”
We do understand that Sony Ericsson owns the trademark to Xperia, but attacking fansites and bullying them into shutting down, seams a little extreme. Can you image if Google started chasing behind websites with the Android title or if Nokia and Apple started hunting down all the domains with iPhone or Symbian in their names.

Do you think Sony Ericsson is doing right by their fans ? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
