[Guide] How to unlock iOS 5.0

Anyone relying on a carrier unlock using UltraSn0w will be happy to know that it's developers have updated the software with support for iOS5. You will have to Jailbreak your device before unlocking it.

The latest version of RedSn0w which was released yesterday is capable of jailbreaking your device while preserving your baseband. The only issue is that the jailbreak is tethered - which means you will have to connect your iOS device with your PC every time you reboot if you want to boot back into the jailbroken state. While an un tethered jailbreak is on it's way you can always try the tethered method of you are impatient to get iOS5 on your carrier locked device.

What you need to do
  • Jailbreak iOS 5 on your iPhone 3GS/4 using RedSn0w or Sn0wbreeze
  • Start Cydia once you have jailbroken your device
  • Select Manage - Sources - Edit and add the 'http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com' repository.
  • You will be able to install ultrasn0w 1.2.4 once you have added the above mentioned repo.

NOTE - iPhone 3GS Users with Baseband 06.15
iPhone 3GS users who are on baseband 06.15 are required to 'disable location services' when you first start iOS5 and are asked about location services. You can re enable it under Settings later on.
