[Guide] How to root T-Mobile Galaxy S II on Android 2.3.5


If you own the Samsung Galaxy S II (T-Mobile) and are looking to root your device you are in luck. All the variants of the Galaxy S II on U.S. carriers are rootable. and the guide to root the T-Mobile Galaxy S II follows:

Rooting Guide - Samsung Galaxy S II (T-Mobile) - Android 2.3.5
  1. Requirements
    • Samsung Galaxy S II USB Cable
  2. Download the following files before proceeding:
  3. Install Samsung Kies for your Galaxy S II (T-Mobile). This step is required for ODIN to be able to detect your phone and install the correct drivers.
  4. Launch ODIN 1.85
  5. Turn off your device, hold Volume Up + Volume Down and plug in your device to your computer using your USB cable.
  6. Once your device is recognized select the PDA button on ODIN
    • navigate to recovery-cwm-hercules.tar (ClockworkMod Recovery)
    • Click Start
    • Wait for your device to be flashed and rebooted.
  7. Once you have rebooted, mount USB storage by swiping down teh screen on the notifications and selecting connect USB storage.
  8. Transfer su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip (Superuser) to your memory card.
  9. Switch off the phone once its transfered. Hold Volume Up + Volume Down and click the Power button.
  10. You will now boot into ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery
    • Navigate to backup and storage > backup
    • Select nandroid backup, So you can recover in case something goes wrong.
    1.   Navigate to install zip from sd card > choose zip from sdcard > su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip
    2. Reboot your device by choosing reboot system from the main menu.
    Thats it your Samsung Galaxy S II (T-Mobile) should now be rooted on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread.
