Nokia has announced it's first Meego based handset the Nokia N9, during Nokia Connection 2011 in Singapore. The Linux based Meego operating system which was jointly developed by Intel and Nokia and features a new user interface while uses a lot of gesture based navigation.The homescreen has three panels, which you can navigate with swipes. The first contains all the installed applications, the second has events which include notifications and messages and the third panel shows all the running applications.
The N9 features a new Webkit based browser which has HTML 5 support but misses Adobe Flash. Ovi Maps has also been updated on the N9, featuring turn-by-turn voice navigation. The N9 also has Dolby Headphones and Dolby Digital Plus built in. The device will also feature Angry Birds Magic, which features NFC along with Galaxy on Fire 2 and Real Golf 2011.
The device has a polycarbonate unibody design which a curved 3.9 inch AMOLED touchscreen display which does not rely on any buttons for navigation and instead works with swipes and gestures. The N9 camera has an 8MP Carl Zeiss lens, auto-focus, LED flash and capable of capturing HD video with stereo sound. The camera also features touch to focus, exposure lock and continuous auto-focus.
The N9 is powered by a 1GHz processor and has 1GB of RAM, it has HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS. The N9 like the iPhone 4 will require a micro SIM.
