Ten things to wish for at the WWDC 2010

WWDC 2010

The WWDC event is scheduled to kick off on the 7th of June, with a keynote address from Steve Jobs. This event is not only looked forward to eagerly by the developer world, but by consumers as well.

While all we know now is that it will host the launch of the much awaited iPhone OS 4, The world also awaits the release of the iPhone 4/HD. Here are a list of 10 things we would expect from the WWDC, so here they are with my own thoughts attached:

iPhone OS 4.0 & The new iPhone

Each year Apple has released an iPhone alongside a major update to their OS. The company generally keeps a sharp, tight lid on their device prototypes but unfortunately the upcoming device has seen several leaks this time. Though we don't know the name the new iPhone will have, we look forward to the new iPhone making its debut at the WWDC this year.

Apple's iPhone OS is simple beautiful and easy to use. With the upcoming iteration, features such as multi tasking promises to make the iPhone OS stand firmly up against its competition.

iPhone with CDMA on Verizon

AT&T has been the sole carrier of all the iPhones to date. There has however been speculation this time that iPhone is expected to come to Verizon either later this year or in early 2011. I am not sure if this announcement will be made at the WWDC, but it would be good to see if this rumor is true.

iPad OS 4.5 ?

iPad runs iPhone OS, but with a visual boost on its apps to accommodate the bigger screen. While iPhone OS was on 3.1.3, Apple released iPad OS 3.2. It would make more sense to me if iPad's OS at least had a 0.5 increment to show that the '0.5' marks the iPad's OS. Its highly possible that we will only see OS 4 on the next generation iPad. iPad owners have been complaining about WiFi issues that have been haunting them since the device launched. If iPad OS 4.5 is not due anytime soon, I hope we at least get to see a 3.2.1 increment.

iTunes.com for iTunes in the Cloud

With Apple's acquirement of the music streaming service Lala, there is hope for some sort of cloud based streaming service from Apple. While i don't see the practically of hosting your entire music collection online, i am sure this concept should have some interesting results.

Refresh for Macbook Air, Mac Mini and Mac Pro

Its been quite some time since the MacBook Air saw a new version. I am not sure if Apple will continue to focus on its iPhone and iPad as untra portable devices for awhile or give the Air a much needed boost in RAM and GPU. The Mac Mini is also expected to be refreshed with HDMI.

MobileMe for Free

Enough with this one Apple. Personally I love being linked to the cloud and I hate that Apple adamantly keeps their service as a paid only service while other providers like Microsoft, Google and Nokia offer it for free. Recent changes in the mobile me account hints at the possibility of this happening and all I can say is, its long overdue.

MobileMe is a service that pushes email, contacts and calendar events over the air allowing all your iDevices to stay in sync. Its added features like Remote Swipe and Device locate add security that make the service invaluable to the end user.

Safari 5

Apple is expected to give their browser a much needed refresh with tons of new features in a move to better it to it's competition with Google Chrome and Opera.

Mac OS X 10.6.4 This iteration of OS X has been tested for some time now, This update enhances performance and stability and it is hoped that we would see it's release during the WWDC.

OS X 10.7 Sneak Peak

While the focus of this even will be on the iPhone OS4 and the new iPhone it will be nice if we get to see a bit o what's to come with probably the last iteration of OS X. I personally cant wait for the release of OS 4.0 for my iPhone. I don't think i will be considering the new iPhone. MobileMe being made free would ensure that I stick to using the iPhone without swapping phones this year.
